A fish trader in Tangail has been sent a threatening letter on the pad of a ‘killer gang’ demanding a ransom of 5 lakh taka. The letter has spread panic among traders as it has gone viral on social media. The letter threatens to kill and disappear the body if the ransom is not paid. Police are investigating the incident.
An organized criminal gang called the ‘Killer Gang’ has sent a letter threatening to kill a fish trader in Santosh, a municipal area of Tangail’s Sadar Upazila, demanding a ransom of Tk 5 lakh. The letter has now gone viral on social media, causing extreme panic among local traders.
It is learnt that an unknown person handed the letter to an employee of prominent fish trader Azaharul Islam on Thursday night. The employee handed it over to businessman Azaharul Islam the next day, Friday morning.

The letter threatened,
‘চিঠি পাওয়ার পর তুই যদি বিষয়টি নিয়ে কারো সাথে শেয়ার করস বা আইনি প্রক্রিয়ায় যাস তাহলে তোকে কবর দেয়ার জন্য তোর লাশ পরিবার খুঁজে না পাওয়ার ব্যবস্থা আমরা করবো।মনে রাখবি প্রশাসন তোর সাথে সব সময় থাকবে না। আর বাচঁতে পারবি না। তোর সঠিক বুদ্ধিমত্তার সিদ্ধান্ত তুইসহ তোর পরিবার সুরক্ষিত থাকবে।’
Translation: “If you share the matter with anyone or go through legal proceedings after receiving the letter, we will make arrangements to prevent your family from finding your body to bury you. Remember, the administration will not be with you forever. You will not be able to survive. Your right decision will keep you and your family safe.”
The letter further mentions,
‘দীর্ঘদিন ধরে মাছ ব্যবসা করে যাচ্ছিস।এতে তোর কোন প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী নাই। দাকিকৃত ৫ লাখ টাকা তোর কাছে কিছু না। তাই আগামী আগস্টের ৩ তারিখে রবিবার সন্ধ্যা ৭টার সময় একটি শপিং ব্যাগে করে কাগমারী মাহমুদুল হাসানের বাসার সামনে একটি গাছে ফরহাদের ছবি লাগানো আছে সেই গাছের নিচে রেখে যাবি।’
Translation: “You have been in the fish business for a long time. You have no competitors in this. The 5 lakh taka you demanded is nothing to you. So, on Sunday, August 3rd at 7 pm, I will put it in a shopping bag and leave it under a tree in front of Kagmari Mahmudul Hasan’s house where Farhad’s picture is placed.”
Santosh Bazar Committee convener Zubair Hossain said,
মাছ ব্যবসায়ী আজাহার একজন সৎ। হঠাৎ করে সকালে শুনতে পেলাম তাকে চিঠি দিয়ে ৫ লাখ টাকা চাদা দাবি করেছে। দেশ স্বাধীন হওয়ার পর এমনটা শুনতে পাইনি।
Translation: Fish trader Azahar is an honest person. Suddenly, I heard in the morning that a letter was sent to him demanding 5 lakh taka as compensation. I have not heard anything like this since the country became independent.
Fish trader Azaharul Islam said, an unknown person gave the letter on Thursday.Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tanvir Ahmed told Kaler Kantho that the fish trader came to the police station in the evening and reported the matter in writing. We have started the investigation.
