A Barishal court has sentenced four men to death for the rape of a housewife, convicting them under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The verdict was announced by Judge Rakibul Islam of the Barishal Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Sunday afternoon (October 26). Along with the death penalty, the convicts were each fined Tk 1 lakh.

Case Background
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in 2016 when the victim was on her way to meet her husband near Sher-e-Bangla Medical College. She took an easy bike (auto-rickshaw), but the driver diverted to another location.

The four convicts then gang-raped her in a garden in the Trish Godown area of Barishal city. The next day, the victim was found and admitted to a hospital by her family. On November 12, 2016, she filed a case against the four men.
After hearing testimonies from 11 witnesses, the court found the accused guilty and delivered the death sentence verdict. However, one of the convicts, Khokon Khan, remains absconding.
