Fresh Currency for Bangladesh: Where to Get the Fresh Notes Today

Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh, has released new banknotes for people to use. This is happening before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.

When Did They Become Available?

The new notes were first released into the market yesterday, Sunday, June 1st. On the first day, you could only get them from the Bangladesh Bank’s main office in Motijheel, but there was a limited supply.

Where Can You Get Them from Today?

From today, Monday, June 2nd, you can get these new banknotes from the main branch offices of Bangladesh Bank. Additionally, 10 other banks will also start giving out these new notes at some of their branches.

Which Banks Are Giving Out the New Notes?

Besides Bangladesh Bank’s own offices, you can get the new 1000 Taka, 50 Taka, and 20 Taka notes (which also has a new series) from the following banks:

  • Sonali Bank
  • Janata Bank
  • Agrani Bank
  • Rupali Bank
  • Pubali Bank
  • Uttara Bank
  • Dutch-Bangla Bank
  • Islami Bank Bangladesh
  • Al-Arafah Islami Bank
  • BRAC Bank

These banks have received the new notes at their main local offices, and they will start distributing them to the public from today, Monday. Each bank will decide which of their branches will offer the new banknotes.

How Many New Notes Are Available?

It is reported that around 200 crore Taka worth of new banknotes have been printed before Eid. Most of these notes are being given to the banks for distribution. The remaining amount will be exchanged through different branches of Bangladesh Bank.

Old Notes Will Still Be Used

Bangladesh Bank has also said that all the currently used paper money and metal coins will continue to be valid and used along with the new notes.

Which New Notes Are Coming First?

An official from Bangladesh Bank said that only the 20 Taka, 50 Taka, and 1000 Taka notes are being released now, before Eid. New designs for the 5 Taka, 10 Taka, 100 Taka, 200 Taka, and 500 Taka notes will start being printed after Eid.

Banks Received Notes First

Arif Hossain, the Executive Director and spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, mentioned yesterday that commercial banks are the main direct clients of the central bank. Therefore, a limited amount of the new notes was given to some banks first. These banks will start giving these notes to their customers from today or the day after.

More New Notes Will Be Released Later

The authorities at Bangladesh Bank have said that the new 20 Taka, 50 Taka, and 1000 Taka notes are being released in the first step. More new banknotes will be printed, and the supply will be increased gradually in the future.
