Gaza Cola: A Powerful Alternative Supporting Palestinian Rights

In London’s Holborn district, Palestinian activist Osama Qashoo has created Gaza Cola, a bold new drink that aims to offer consumers an alternative to mainstream sodas. Developed in November 2023, Gaza Cola is served at Hiba Express, a Palestinian and Lebanese restaurant. Its packaging, decorated with the colors of the Palestinian flag and traditional Arabic artwork, makes it clear that this beverage is more than just a soda—it’s a statement of solidarity.

Qashoo, who co-founded the International Solidarity Movement in 2001 and the Free Gaza Movement in 2007, created Gaza Cola to support the Palestinian cause and encourage a boycott of companies that back the Israeli military. “The goal was to cut ties with brands that fuel the occupation and genocide in Gaza,” Qashoo explains. The drink has a sweet and slightly acidic flavor similar to Coca-Cola but is described by customers as smoother and less fizzy, making it a refreshing alternative to popular colas.

As an alternative to mainstream sodas, Gaza Cola provides consumers with a product that’s not only tasty but also rooted in activism. It taps into a growing wave of consumer awareness, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, where GlobalData analyst George Shaw reports that 53 percent of consumers are boycotting brands due to recent conflicts. Positioned as “the real taste of freedom,” Gaza Cola promotes “trade not aid” for Palestine, encouraging people to support products that align with their values.

For Qashoo, Gaza Cola is more than a drink—it’s a tool for change. By choosing Gaza Cola, consumers support Palestinian self-determination and take a stand for justice. It’s a perfect blend of taste and activism, sending a powerful message with every sip.
