A serious allegation has been leveled against Adnan Imam, the Chairman of Genex Infosys. It’s claimed that Imam, with the alleged assistance of associates linked to former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, secured a substantial loan of BDT 2000 crore from the United Commercial Bank (UCB). The accusation suggests that these loans were obtained through the violation of established banking rules and regulations.
UCB Chairman Sharif Zahir has expressed deep concern over the matter, stating that irregularities between 2018 and 2024 have led to significant financial losses for the bank. In a formal letter addressed to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Zahir has urged a thorough investigation into the fraudulent activities allegedly perpetrated by former board members and their associates.
The ACC is now expected to initiate an investigation into the matter, examining the validity of the claims made by the UCB Chairman and determining whether any illegal activities have indeed taken place.
This event has drawn a lot of attention and brought up important issues about financial transparency and corporate governance in Bangladesh. It is unclear if the accusations made against Adnan Imam and his accomplices will be cleared as the inquiry progresses.
