Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has expressed strong opposition to holding elections excluding the Awami League, calling it unacceptable. He also addressed alleged false cases against party members and defended the role of the media during last year’s public uprising.
GM Quader Rejects Excluding Awami League from Elections
Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader has firmly stated that elections will not be considered legitimate if the Awami League is excluded.
He said:
“আওয়ামী লীগ যখন জামায়াতে ইসলামীকে রাজনীতিতে নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষণা করেছে, আমি তার প্রতিবাদ করেছি। একইভাবে এখন বলছি, আওয়ামী লীগকে বাদ দিয়ে নির্বাচন করলে তা গ্রহণযোগ্য হবে না।”
Translation: “When the Awami League banned Jamaat-e-Islami from politics, I protested. Similarly, I now say that elections will not be acceptable if the Awami League is excluded.”
Quader made these remarks during an exchange of views at the Dhaka District branch of JP in the evening.

False Cases and Government Pressure on JP Leaders
Earlier, GM Quader had participated in JP activities after a case seeking restrictions on his political work was withdrawn.
He mentioned:
“আমার এবং আমাদের নেতাকর্মীদের বিরুদ্ধে অনেকগুলো মিথ্যা হত্যা মামলা দেওয়া হয়েছে। মিথ্যা মামলায় যাদের গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে, তাদের জামিন দেওয়া হচ্ছে না।”
Translation: “Many false murder cases have been filed against me and our leaders. Those arrested in these false cases are not being granted bail.”
He added:
“একজন দোষীকে শাস্তি দিতে দশজন নিরাপদ মানুষকে শাস্তি দিচ্ছে। বাড়ি ঘর ও অফিসে আগুন দিয়ে, মামলা-হামলা করে আমাদের দমিয়ে রাখতে পারবে না। আমরা বর্তমান সরকারের অপকর্মের বিরোধিতা করছি, ঝুঁকি নিয়ে জনগণের পক্ষে কথা বলছি। সরকারের জুলুম নির্যাতনের ভয়ে আমরা থেমে যাবো না।”
“To punish one guilty person, they are punishing ten innocent people. They cannot suppress us by setting fire to homes or offices, or through lawsuits and attacks. We are opposing the government’s wrongdoing and speaking for the people despite risks. We will not stop out of fear of government oppression.”
JP’s Stand on Party Symbol Disputes
GM Quader also commented on disputes over the plough symbol:
“আমাদের লাঙ্গল অন্য কাউকে দিতে চাইলে আমরা রাজপথে আন্দোলন করবো। যারা ভূমিকা রাখতে পারবে তারাই জাতীয় পার্টির প্রকৃত নেতা।”
Translation: “If someone tries to take our plough symbol, we will protest on the streets. Those who can take action are the true leaders of Jatiya Party.”
