The government has taken swift action in response to the recent earthquake, initiating immediate emergency measures to manage the situation and support affected citizens. The Disaster Management and Relief Ministry has opened a dedicated emergency response centre under the Disaster Management Directorate, beginning operations today (22 November).

Emergency Response Centre Activated

The newly established centre is actively collecting district-wise primary damage assessments through continuous communication with local administrations.

Casualties and Injuries Across Districts

According to initial reports received from Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi and Magura, the earthquake has so far led to 10 deaths and 461 injuries.

A breakdown of casualties includes:

  • Dhaka district (Dhaka city): 4 deaths, 59 injuries
  • Narayanganj: 1 death, 18 injuries
  • Narsingdi: 5 deaths, 110 injuries
  • Gazipur: 252 injuries
  • Magura: 22 injuries

The ministry confirmed that it is maintaining round-the-clock communication with district administrations to ensure proper coordination of response and relief efforts.

Immediate Financial Assistance Provided

As part of the initial relief initiatives, the government has started providing financial support through district administrations.

  • Each deceased victim’s family is receiving Tk25,000.
  • Each injured individual is being given Tk15,000.

Many of the injured have already returned home after receiving primary treatment in hospitals.

Damage Assessment Ongoing

Authorities are currently working to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the earthquake. A detailed update will be shared once the comprehensive assessment is complete.
