Govt Declares No Tolerance for Killings by Fire or Attacks on Institutions: Religious Affairs Adviser

Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain has said that the government will not tolerate such acts of burning people and burning down institutions.

He made the remarks at a press conference on contemporary issues at the Secretariat on Sunday (December 21) afternoon.

The Religious Affairs Adviser said,

“আগুন দিয়ে মানুষ পুড়িয়ে মারা এবং প্রতিষ্ঠান জ্বালিয়ে দেয়া গর্হিত কাজ। সরকার এসব বরদাস্ত করবে না।”

Translation : “Burning people to death and setting institutions on fire are heinous acts. The government will not tolerate such actions.”

Noting that providing security to all installations is a difficult task, he said,

“আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি সরকারের নিয়ন্ত্রণে রয়েছে।”

Translation : “The law and order situation is under the government’s control.”

Calling the incident of a young man being beaten to death in Mymensingh extremely condemnable, Khalid Hossain said,

“রাষ্ট্র পরিচালনার ক্ষেত্রে এসব বড় বাধা হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। মবকারীদের অবিলম্বে আইনের আওতায় আনা হবে।”

Translation : “Such incidents have become major obstacles in running the state. The mob perpetrators will be brought under the law immediately.”

The Religious Affairs Adviser also said that several people have been arrested in connection with the Mymensingh incident.

On the night of December 18, a young man named Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death in Square Master Bari, Dubalia Para of Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh over allegations of religious defamation. The body was later tied to a tree and set on fire. So far, 10 people have been reported arrested in connection with the incident.

On the same night, attacks, vandalism, and arson were carried out at the headquarters of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. Reports also emerged of attacks, vandalism, and arson in different parts of the country.
