In his address to the nation, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that preparations have been made to send one lakh Bangladeshi youth to Japan in the next five years. Initiatives have also been taken with Italy, South Korea, Serbia and Middle Eastern countries to send skilled workers. In addition, significant progress has been made in eliminating visa complications for expatriates, regularizing irregular expatriates and multiple entry visas in Malaysia.
He said these things in his speech on the occasion of the July Uprising Day. On the same day, Yunus read out the July Declaration before the nation at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, through which the 16-year rule led by Sheikh Hasina ended as a result of the mass movement.
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said,
‘আগামী পাঁচ বছরে জাপানে অন্তত এক লাখ বাংলাদেশি তরুণকে পাঠানোর প্রস্তুতি শুরু করেছি। তরুণদের সেখানে পাঠানোর জন্য বিশেষ প্রশিক্ষণ অন্যান্য ব্যবস্থাও আমরা নিতে শুরু করেছি। এর পাশাপাশি, আমরা ইতালি, দক্ষিণ কোরিয়া, সার্বিয়াসহ বিভিন্ন দেশে দক্ষ কর্মীদের পাঠানো উদ্যোগ নিয়েছি।’
Translation: “We have started preparations to send at least one lakh Bangladeshi youth to Japan in the next five years. We have also started taking special training and other measures to send the youth there. In addition, we have taken initiatives to send skilled workers to various countries including Italy, South Korea, Serbia.”
He made these remarks in his address to the nation on Tuesday (August 5) night. He also said,
‘প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশিদের জন্য ভিসাসংক্রান্ত জটিলতা দূর করতে আমরা গভীরভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছি। বাংলাদেশি নাগরিকদের জন্য আরব-আমিরাত পুনরায় ভিসা চালু করেছে। মালয়েশিয়া কর্তৃপক্ষ বাংলাদেশি কর্মীদের জন্য প্রথমবারের মতো মাল্টিপল এন্ট্রি ভিসা চালু করেছে। অন্যান্য দেশের সঙ্গেও ভিসা জটিলতা কিভাবে কমিয়ে আনা যায় এ নিয়ে আমরা কাজ করে যাচ্ছি।’
Translation: “We are working hard to remove visa-related complications for expatriate Bangladeshis. The United Arab Emirates has reintroduced visas for Bangladeshi citizens. Malaysian authorities have introduced multiple-entry visas for Bangladeshi workers for the first time. We are also working with other countries on how to reduce visa complications.”
He further said,
‘সৌদি আরব, জর্দান, ওমানসহ বিভিন্ন দেশে নথিপত্রের কারণে যে প্রবাসীরা ইরেগুলার হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন, তাদের রেগুলারাইজ করার ব্যবস্থা নিয়েছি। আমরা বিভিন্ন দেশের সঙ্গে বিদ্যমান চুক্তিগুলোকে পর্যালোচনা করে দেখছি যাতে আমাদের প্রবাসী ভাই-বোনদের জন্য সেগুলো স্বস্তিদায়ক হয়। দেশে এবং দেশের বাইরে বাংলাদেশের নাগরিকরা যে যেখানে অবস্থান করছে তারা যাতে সব ধরনের নাগরিক সুবিধা পান আমরা সে বিষয়ে উদ্যোগ নিয়েছি।’
Translation: “We have taken measures to regularize expatriates who became irregular due to lack of documents in various countries including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman. We are reviewing the existing agreements with various countries so that they are comfortable for our expatriate brothers and sisters. We have taken initiatives so that Bangladeshi citizens, both in the country and abroad, get all kinds of citizenship benefits wherever they are.”
Earlier, at 5 pm on Tuesday, Professor Muhammad Yunus read out the July Declaration at a public meeting at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. The declaration was presented to the nation in the presence of all parties to the mass uprising. It is worth noting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 and left for India due to the strong movement of students and the public, which ended the 16-year rule of the Awami League.
Three days after the fall of the government, on August 8, Dr. Muhammad Yunus led the Advisory Council of the interim government to take oath at Bangabhaban. On that day, the Chief Advisor gave his first address to the nation.
