Background of the Protest
The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has taken a strong stance against the ruling party, Awami League. On Saturday night, the NCP’s Southern Region Chief Organizer, Hasnat Abdullah, made a bold announcement from a large public gathering at Shahbagh. He declared a protest movement named “March to Jamuna” because the government failed to provide a clear roadmap regarding the banning of the Awami League.
Demand for a Clear Roadmap
Earlier that evening, around 7:30 PM, Hasnat Abdullah gave a one-hour deadline to the interim government. He demanded a clear and specific plan for banning the Awami League within that time. He warned that if the demand was not met, he would announce the “March to Jamuna” movement, referring to the residence of the Chief Adviser of the interim government.
Hasnat expressed frustration, saying:
“We have not received any roadmap from the interim government so far. If there is no clear announcement within the next hour, we will march to Jamuna. We will occupy the road from Shahbagh to Banglamotor, with Rajshik Mor as the center of our movement.”
Announcement of ‘March to Jamuna’
When the government did not respond within the given time, Hasnat Abdullah made the official announcement at 8:45 PM. He stated that since the government had failed to declare any plan, their supporters would now move towards Rajshik Mor, located in front of the InterContinental Hotel, which is close to the Jamuna residence.
Immediately after the announcement, the crowd at Shahbagh began moving towards the InterContinental Hotel area, preparing to take position there.

Clear Message to the Interim Government
During his speech, Hasnat strongly urged the advisors of the interim government to take immediate action. He said:
“We want to clearly tell the advisers—do not delay in banning the Awami League. We still trust you. Ban the Awami League now.”
His message reflected urgency and disappointment over what he described as inaction by the interim government.
Security Measures Taken
In response to the announcement and the movement of protesters, law enforcement agencies acted quickly. They set up barricades near the InterContinental Hotel and increased security presence to prevent any unwanted situation.
Conclusion
The situation reflects growing political tension in the country. The National Citizens’ Party is now openly challenging the interim government and demanding the banning of the Awami League. With the launch of the “March to Jamuna” movement, the political environment may become more intense in the coming days if the government does not address the protesters’ demands.
