National Citizen Party (NCP) South Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah delivered a strong statement, saying:
“If I have to take a July certificate from Chuppu, I’d rather die by drinking poison.”
“চুপ্পুর কাছ থেকে যদি জুলাইয়ের সার্টিফিকেট নিতে হয়, তার চেয়ে বিষ খেয়ে মরে যাওয়া ভালো।”
He made this remark while addressing the NCP District Coordination Meeting at the Patuakhali District Shilpakala Academy Auditorium on Saturday afternoon (November 1) as the chief guest.
Hasnat Abdullah said:
“If we must take a certificate of revolution from Chuppu, that’s the same as taking one from Hasina. Actually, they want to take it from the big one, but they can’t say it aloud. Even if you tell a freedom fighter to take a certificate from Chuppu, he won’t agree.”
‘বিপ্লবের সার্টিফিকেট যদি নিতে হয় চুপ্পুর কাছ থেকে, তাহলে সেটা হাসিনার কাছ থেকে নেওয়ার সমান। আসলে ওনারা বড়টার কাছ থেকে নিতে চায়, কিন্তু বলতে পারে না। একজন মুক্তিযোদ্ধাকেও যদি বলেন চুপ্পুর কাছ থেকে সার্টিফিকেট নিতে হবে—তাকে রাজি করানো যাবে না।’
He further added:
“BNP says we’re Jamaat, and Jamaat says we’re BNP. That means we are on the right path. Once, right-wing groups called us leftists, and leftists called us right-wingers. That means we stand in the middle. We are neither BNP nor Jamaat.”
‘বিএনপি বলে আমরা জামায়াত, আবার জামায়াত বলে আমরা বিএনপি। এর মানে আমরা ঠিক পথেই আছি। একসময় ডানপন্থীরা আমাদের বামপন্থী বলত, আবার বামপন্থীরা বলত আমরা ডানপন্থী। এর মানে আমরা মধ্যপন্থায় আছি। আমরা বিএনপি নই, জামায়াতও নই।’

NCP’s Core Ideology
Speaking about the NCP’s fundamental stance, Hasnat said:
“We have never moved away from our original position. We will decide who to include in our alliance. Those who believe in reform, institutional information, and constitutional reformation they will be with us. Those who support freedom, sovereignty, and reform of Bangladesh, we will build a new Bangladesh with them.”
‘আমরা আমাদের মূল অবস্থান থেকে কখনো সরে যাইনি। জোটে কাকে নেব তা আমরা ঠিক করব। যারা সংস্কার, ইনস্টিটিউশনাল ইনফরমেশন ও কনস্টিটিউশন রিফর্মেশনের পক্ষে থাকবে, তারাই আমাদের সঙ্গে থাকবে। স্বাধীনতা, সার্বভৌমত্ব ও বাংলাদেশের সংস্কারের পক্ষে যারা, আমরা তাদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে নতুন বাংলাদেশ গড়ব।

On the “July Certificate”
Addressing the issue of the so-called “July Certificate,” Hasnat said:
“Many are signing the July certificate now. We had earlier said — first show it, then we’ll decide whether to sign or not. Back then, we were opposed for that position, but now those same people are coming to our side.”
‘অনেকে তো জুলাই সনদে সই করছেন। আগে আমরা বলেছিলাম, আগে দেখাতে হবে—তারপর আমরা সই করব কি না ঠিক করব। তখন আমাদের বিরোধিতা করা হয়েছিল, এখন তারাই আমাদের পথে আসছে।’

The meeting was presided over by Advocate Zahidul Islam Musa, Joint Member Secretary of NCP Central Committee and Patuakhali District Coordinator. Party leaders and activists from different levels were also present.
Hasnat Abdullah’s speech reflects growing internal criticism within the NCP regarding political legitimacy and ideological independence.
