Hijra Community Save HSC Examinee from Attempted Rape

In a shocking incident in Barishal city, a teenage HSC candidate was the target of an attempted rape by a local miscreant named Sohel. The girl was walking in the Rasulpur Char area of Ward No. 9 when she was attacked and dragged by Sohel.

Her father, Babul Sardar, raced to the scene after hearing her screams, but in an attempt to save his daughter, he was brutally attacked and hurt by Sohel.

Hijra Community Steps in to Save the Girl

The incident took a dramatic turn when members of the Hijra (transgender) community, who were nearby for a religious gathering, heard the girl and her father screaming. Without hesitation, they came out and rescued the girl, confronting the attacker.

They not only stopped the assault but also caught Sohel, gave him a beating, and later handed him over to the police.

Police Confirm the Incident

Officer-in-Charge Md. Mizanur Rahman of Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station confirmed the event. He praised the courage of the hijra community, saying:

“They played a vital role in stopping the crime and detaining the accused.”

The arrested man, Sohel, was presented before court on Wednesday afternoon and has been sent to jail custody after a case was officially filed.

Eyewitnesses Share What Happened

According to local witnesses, the crime took place around 9:30 PM on Tuesday night. The location of the attack was very close to a shelter and prayer center of the hijra community. That night, they were gathered for an event, which is why many of them were present.

Pakhi, a hijra from Patuakhali, and local hijra Shanta said they heard loud screams and rushed out. They saw Sohel dragging the girl while her father lay bleeding on the ground.

After then, Sohel was encircled by all of the hijras, who kept him in an adjacent room while they awaited the arrival of the police.

Community Hailed for Brave Action

The bravery and quick response of the hijra community have been widely appreciated by locals and the police. Their actions prevented a serious crime and helped law enforcement arrest the accused on the spot.
