On the solemn and sacred occasion of Holy Ashura, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has delivered a heartfelt message, underlining the enduring values of “equality, justice and peace” in society. He also extended his sincerest wishes for the unity, solidarity, and sustained progress of the global Muslim Ummah.
In his statement, Prof Yunus reflected deeply on the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)—who, along with his family and 72 devoted followers, sacrificed their lives on the 10th of Muharram, 61 Hijri, at the scorching desert of Karbala, refusing to bow before tyranny and oppression.
The Holy Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, holds profound historical and spiritual significance in the Islamic calendar. In Bangladesh and across the Muslim world, the day is marked with religious solemnity and reflection, and in the country, it is observed as a public holiday. Apart from the tragic incident of Karbala, the holy day of Ashura stands as one of the most virtuous and significant days in Islamic history, said the Chief Adviser.

Describing Ashura as a symbol of unwavering faith and moral resilience, Prof Yunus remarked that Islam, as a religion, is founded upon truth, justice, and peace. The events of Karbala are a powerful embodiment of those core principles. Chief Adviser said,
“On this somber day of Holy Ashura, I pay my deepest respects to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the greatest Prophet and Messenger Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), and all those who were tragically martyred in the desert of Karbala.”
He urged all Muslims to embrace the spiritual essence of Ashura by engaging in righteous deeds, charity, and self-reflection, and to strive towards strengthening their bond with Allah (SWT).The day of Ashura, while anchored in sorrow for the events of Karbala, also stands as a timeless reminder of sacrifice, steadfastness, and the eternal struggle for justice—values that continue to resonate across generations.
