A nightmare ride-share incident has shocked the nation after a working woman from Dhaka fell victim to an appalling crime. She had booked a motorcycle ride-share from Mirpur-12 to Shyamoli, but what started as a routine trip quickly turned into a nightmare.
Instead of taking her to Shyamoli, the rider veered off toward an unknown route. The woman, unable to resist or protest, was carried along for several hours. Eventually, the motorcycle stopped near a remote culvert in Ghorashal, Narsingdi. There, the rider brutally raped her, recorded videos containing scenes and statements of his choice, robbed her of all money and valuables, and fled, leaving her in the desolate area.
It was assumed that in the crowd of the capital city, no one would trace which ride-share driver did what to whom and where. But reality turned out differently. Somehow, the victim managed to call the national emergency number 999. Police responded swiftly.
They first rescued the woman from the remote location and admitted her to a hospital. Then, within just 48 hours of the incident being reported, the perpetrator was identified and arrested.

Md. Anowar Hossain Shamim, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), Narsingdi, said:
“We worked day and night to investigate the incident. With the help of technology and the victim’s description, we were able to trace the accused quickly. Our commitment to justice led to this success.”
He also noted:
“We suspect the helmet used in the incident was laced with some kind of chemical that impaired the wearer’s consciousness. Forensic tests are underway to confirm this.”
ASP Shamim extended heartfelt thanks to Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Md. Abdul Hannan for his guidance and to Sub-Inspector Shah Kamal of Palash Police Station for his tireless efforts.
He added:
“SI Shah Kamal’s dedication and relentless work made it possible to capture the criminal so quickly. This case proves that with police commitment and public cooperation, even the impossible becomes possible.”
A Warning to Citizens after Ride-Share Incident
In light of the incident, the police have issued a special warning, especially to female passengers. ASP Shamim advised:
“Be cautious when using ride-sharing services. Avoid using anything unfamiliar offered by the driver—especially helmets, drinks, or other items. Share the rider’s details with your family if possible, and report anything suspicious immediately by calling 999.”
While ride-sharing has become a convenient part of modern life, this incident highlights how such platforms can also be misused to commit heinous crimes.
