The deceased’s uncle, Md. Selim, said,
Translation: “My nephew lived with his family on the seventh floor of a house in Nayachar area of Malibagh Chowdhurypara. He was a HSC candidate from B.A.M. Model School and College this year. As far as I know from the family, he was in a relationship with a girl. This morning, out of pride for that girl, my nephew locked the door of his house, tied a scarf around his neck, and hung himself from the fan. Later, when he learned about the matter, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College in an unconscious state, where the doctor declared him dead.”
DMCH Hospital Police Camp In-charge Inspector Md. Faruk confirmed the student’s death, citing the doctor. He said,
Translation: “The body has been kept in the hospital’s emergency department morgue.”
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the area. Classmates, family and neighbours have expressed deep grief over the tragic death of the young student.
The increasing tendency of young people to make emotional decisions regarding love affairs is a concern – sociologists are stressing the importance of timely counselling and family support.
