Chief Adviser Yunus Emphasizes Entrepreneurial Spirit
Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus said that human beings are not born to do jobs, but to become entrepreneurs. He made this remark on Sunday (14 September) while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the new building of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Bhaban-2 in Agargaon, Dhaka.
He said:
“মানুষ কারো চাকরি করার জন্য আসেনি। মানুষের জন্ম হয়েছে উদ্যোক্তা হওয়ার জন্য। কাজেই সেদিকে যেন আমরা যেতে পারি, সবাইকে সেই সুযোগ যেন দিতে পারি।”
Translation: “People were not born to do jobs. Humans are born to be entrepreneurs. So, we must move in that direction and give everyone the chance to do so.”

Technology Brings Global Opportunities
The Chief Adviser highlighted the role of modern technology in connecting people with the world. According to him, technology has created many new ways for people to become entrepreneurs.
Chief Adviser Yunus stated:
“এখন মানুষ বহু রকমের উদ্যোক্তা হয়েছে। আমরা কারও তালিকা করে রাখিনি। কাজেই আরও সুযোগ আসছে। এর বড় কারণ হলো প্রযুক্তি। প্রযুক্তি আমাদেরকে সমস্ত কাজে একেবারে বিশ্বের সঙ্গে যুক্ত করে দিয়েছে। এখন প্রযুক্তিকে ব্যবহার করার সময় এসেছে।”
Translation: “Now people have become entrepreneurs in many ways. We did not keep a list of them, but more opportunities are coming. The big reason is technology. Technology has connected us with the whole world in every aspect of life. Now it is time to use this technology.”
Opportunities for Everyone
Prof. Yunus said the government wants to ensure that every individual can move forward according to their own potential. He expressed hope that the new PKSF building would mark the beginning of a fresh journey.
“আমরা প্রতিটি মানুষকে তার নিজের সক্ষমতাকে কেন্দ্র করে যেখানে যেতে চায় সেখানে যাওয়ার সুযোগ করে দিতে চাই। আশা করি, এই কাজে পিকেএসএফ নতুন ভবনে এসে নতুন যাত্রা শুরু করবে।”
Translation: “We want to give every person the opportunity to move forward based on their own abilities. I hope PKSF will start a new journey from this new building.”
Changing Structures and Laws
The Chief Adviser said PKSF has already changed its structure and regulations, but more adjustments are needed. He stressed that today’s youth are far ahead compared to earlier generations and need more freedom to invest and innovate.
“পিকেএসএফ এখন আগের কাঠামো নিশ্চয়ই পরিবর্তন করেছে। অনেক নিয়মকানুনের মধ্যে পরিবর্তন হয়েছে। বিনিয়োগের মধ্যে যেতে পারলে তো বড় আকারের একটা কিছু হতে পারে। এখনকার ছেলেমেয়েরা ৮০ সালের ছেলেমেয়ের মতো না। তারা অনেক পরিবর্তিত, অনেক দূর এগিয়ে গেছে।”
Translation: “PKSF has surely changed its structure. Many regulations have also been adjusted. If we can expand into investment, it can become something very big. Today’s boys and girls are not like those of the 1980s. They have changed a lot and gone far ahead.”
Chief Adviser Yunus further added:
“ছেলেমেয়ে সবাই মিলে কয়েক লাখ বিনিয়োগকারী হয়েছে, উদ্যোক্তা হয়েছে। আইনকানুনের মধ্যে যেসব দূরত্ব সৃষ্টি হয়েছে, ইতোমধ্যে সেগুলো সংশোধন করা যায় কি না তা পরীক্ষা করে দেখার প্রয়োজন আছে। নিজস্ব আইন যেটা আছে, এটাকে আরও সম্প্রসারণ করা যায় কি না সেটিও দেখতে হবে।”
Translation: “Boys and girls together have become hundreds of thousands of investors and entrepreneurs. The gaps created by laws need to be reviewed to see if they can be fixed. We must also examine whether the existing laws can be further expanded.”
The Birth of PKSF
Remembering the beginning of PKSF, Yunus said the foundation started with a 20 crore taka fund from the World Bank, which later shaped its future. He explained that the then President Hussain Muhammad Ershad supported the initiative but wanted the money to remain in the system, while Yunus believed it should be returned.
“বিশ্বব্যাংক থেকে ২০ কোটি টাকার একটি ফান্ড এসেছিল। ওই ২০ কোটি টাকাকে কেন্দ্র করে পুরো ঘটনা ঘটেছে। সেই ২০ কোটি টাকা উপলক্ষ্য না হলে পিকেএসএফ-এর জন্ম এভাবে হতো না, অন্য কোনোভাবে কোনোদিন হতে পারত না।”
Translation: “A fund of Tk 20 crore came from the World Bank. The entire story began with that fund. Without that 20 crore taka, PKSF would not have been born in this way, nor could it have happened otherwise.”
He added that this foundation was crucial for starting poverty reduction work directly with the people.
