In a shocking incident in Gazipur’s Kashimpur area, a man killed his wife by suffocating her with a pillow and then called the national emergency helpline 999 to confess and surrender. The police found him waiting inside the house next to his wife’s lifeless body. The couple had been facing ongoing family disputes, and two very young children are now left without their mother.
The Confession Call to 999
According to police, after committing the murder, the husband, Rakib Hasan, made a direct call to the national emergency number.
“আমি আমার স্ত্রীকে মেরে ফেলছি, আমি ঘরে আছি, আত্মসমর্পণ করব। আপনারা আমাকে নিয়ে যান”
“I have killed my wife, I am at home, I will surrender. Please come and take me.”
Police immediately informed Kashimpur Police Station, who then rushed to the scene.
Incident Details
The incident took place on Friday night (8 August) around 8 PM in Chakraborty area, Ward No. 2 of Kashimpur, Gazipur Metropolitan area.
The victim, Jemi (19), was the daughter of late Zahidul Islam from Michrigola village, Setabganj, Dinajpur.
Her husband and accused, Rakib Hasan (22), is the son of Md. Jasim Uddin from Latifpur, Bogura. The couple had two children — Tajim (2 years old) and Raisa Akter Jereen (2 months old).

Family Disputes Before the Murder
Police and locals said the couple had been facing repeated family problems. Once, a settlement was made locally to resolve their disputes. However, on Friday evening, Rakib allegedly pressed a pillow over his wife’s face and suffocated her to death. After confirming her death, he called 999 and stayed in the house until the police arrived.
Heartbreaking Scene
When police entered the house, they found a deeply emotional scene. The couple’s two children were crying next to their mother’s body — two-year-old Tajim and two-month-old Raisa.
Relatives, overcome with emotion, cried and shouted:
“রাকিবরে তুই কি করলি। এখন তোর বাচ্চা দুইটারে কে দেখব?”
“Rakib, what have you done? Who will take care of your two children now?”
The grief moved everyone present.
Police Statement
Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Kashimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident.
“নিহতের মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য শহীদ তাজউদ্দীন আহমদ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে। প্রাথমিকভাবে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, পারিবারিক কলহের জেরে এ হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটেছে। এ বিষয়ে আইনগত ব্যবস্থা প্রক্রিয়াধীন।”
“The victim’s body has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Initially, it is suspected that the murder was caused by a family dispute. Legal procedures are underway.”
