“I have killed my wife Maksuda. I am at home. Please take me to the police station.” This is what Ibrahim Khan (37) said when he called the police after killing his wife Maksuda Khatun (26) in Bangshal.
The incident happened in a home on Sikkatuli Lane in Nazirabazar on Friday, January 24, at around 4:30 p.m. Maksuda was slain by hammer strikes to the head. Ibrahim was later taken from the residence by Bangshal police. Mostafizur Rahman, Maksuda’s brother, has reported the event as a murder at Bangshal Police Station.
Ibrahim was observed crying sorrowfully at the police station while speaking with. “I loved my wife Maksuda very much,” he remarked. We both had prior marriages, but we wanted to move on from the past and start a new life together. We even have a daughter, Bushra, who is one year old. However, who can tolerate their spouse seeing someone else? We used to quarrel over this a lot. I also told her relatives on several occasions.
Ibrahim further explained, “She secretly met someone the day before without telling me. This led to another argument between us. This afternoon, I took a hammer from the house to scare her and kept it inside the drawer of the table. I didn’t actually intend to kill her.” He began crying as he spoke.
When asked why he ended up killing her, he said, “She started shouting at me, and I don’t know how it happened. I can’t explain it.” Breaking into tears again, he said, “Even our baby was crying. Just yesterday, we celebrated Bushra’s first birthday. Now who will take care of her?”
When asked why he informed the police instead of fleeing, Ibrahim said, “I loved Maksuda deeply. She is gone now. What’s the point of living anymore?” When asked how he contacted the police, he said, “I dialed 999 but couldn’t reach them. Later, I called a police officer I knew, and he gave me the number of Bangshal Police Station. Then I called the station and said, ‘I have killed my wife Maksuda. I am at home. Please take me to the police station.’’
Maksuda’s uncle, Alhaj Nazim Uddin Ahmed, said, “Maksuda Khanam was the eldest daughter of Abdul Baten Khan from Gopalpul village in Enayetpur Police Station, Sirajganj. Ibrahim Khan is the son of Mozammel Haque from Nazirabazar. Their marriage was arranged by the families. I heard Ibrahim was studying computer science and worked as a freelancer.”
The plaintiff, Mostafizur Rahman, said, “Ibrahim and my sister’s marriage was arranged by the family. From the very beginning, Ibrahim was suspicious of my sister, but he never provided any evidence to us.
He controlled her phone through apps and even installed CCTV cameras in their home due to his doubts. His previous marriage ended in divorce for the same reason. He has killed my sister. We demand justice.”
Bangshal Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Rafiqul Islam, confirmed that a murder case has been filed regarding the incident. He told that “The accused has confessed to killing his wife. Upon receiving the information, we arrested him. The victim’s brother has filed a case in this regard.”
