In Sherpur’s Sreebardi area, a shocking incident occurred where a 70-year-old man tried to bury his sick wife alive after an argument. The incident was captured on video and quickly spread on social media, sparking outrage. The accused man is currently on the run, and local authorities are investigating.

Sick Wife Faced Cruel Abuse and Attempt to Bury Alive

In the Kakilakura Union of Sreebardi upazila, Sherpur district, a man named Khalilur Rahman (70) physically abused his seriously ill wife, Khorsheda Begum (65), and tried to bury her alive in their yard on the afternoon of August 8, 2025. Khorsheda has been bedridden and unable to move for a long time. The couple’s children live separately after marriage, so Khalilur was her only caretaker.

Viral Video Sparks Local and Online Outrage

A video showing the abuse and the attempt to bury Khorsheda alive was shared widely on social media. This created a strong reaction both locally and online. Since the incident, Khalilur Rahman has been missing.

Eyewitness Condemns the Brutality

Local resident Dulal Mia said,

“এ ঘটনা অত্যন্ত অমানবিক। একজন অসুস্থ নারীকে জীবন্ত কবর দেওয়ার চেষ্টা কোনোভাবেই মেনে নেওয়া যায় না। এর দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি হওয়া উচিত।”
Translation:
“This incident is extremely inhuman. Trying to bury a sick woman alive can never be accepted. There should be exemplary punishment for this.”

Police Response and Investigation Status

Sreebardi police officer-in-charge Md. Anwar Zahid stated,

“ভিডিও দেখে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছায়, তবে অভিযুক্ত খলিলুর রহমান পালিয়ে যান। এখন পর্যন্ত কোনো লিখিত অভিযোগ পাওয়া যায়নি। অভিযোগ পেলে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।”

Translation:
“After seeing the video, police reached the scene, but the accused Khalilur Rahman fled. No written complaint has been filed yet. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.”
