  • Criticises the previous government for corruption, inequality, and abuse of power.
  • Leaders warn that a new form of fascism is still active even after the fall of the old regime.
  • Islamic parties united under 8-party alliance continue their movement with 5-point demands.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that their movement is not only for the 8-party alliance but for the victory of all 18 crore people of Bangladesh. He delivered this speech on Friday (5 November) at the 8-party divisional gathering in Chattogram’s historic Laldighi Maidan.

Since morning, leaders, activists, and residents of the port city gathered at the venue in large processions, turning the entire area into a city of slogans. The main programme started around 1:45 PM, presided over by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque.

Strong Criticism of the Former Government

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman sharply criticised the previous “fascist” government. Says,

“পূর্ববর্তী সরকার জনগণের উন্নয়নে নয়, বরং নিজেদের স্বার্থে ব্যস্ত ছিল।”

Translation: “The previous government was not busy with public development, but with their own interests.”

He said they used national resources for personal benefit, looted public money, and invested abroad, including in Singapore.

Reference to Shapla Chattar Killings

The Jamaat Ameer reminded the audience of the killings at Shapla Chattar. He said,

“সেই সময়ের কুখ্যাত প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেছিলেন নিহতরা ‘রং দিয়ে শুয়ে ছিল’।”

Translation: “The notorious prime minister at the time said that the dead were ‘lying with paint’.”

He added that the previous government came to power with blood and left with blood on their hands.

Warning About Ongoing Fascism

Dr. Rahman said that although fascism has been removed, the country is not fully free from it yet. He said,

“ফ্যাসিবাদ বিদায় নিয়েছে, তবে দেশ এখনও ফ্যাসিবাদমুক্ত হয়নি।”

Translation: “Fascism is gone, but the country is still not free from fascism.”

He warned that if their demands are ignored, another movement similar to the “5 August revolution” may happen again.

Claims of Influence and Corruption After 5 August

He said that even after losing political power, some groups continue to show influence over administration, engage in extortion, and practice corruption.

Five Demands of the 8-Party Alliance

At the rally, activists raised slogans with their five key demands:

  1. Establish Allah’s law and ensure justice.
  2. Implement Islamic economic system and end the capitalist system.
  3. Remove groups involved in extortion, corruption, and administrative influence.
  4. Ensure trial of all killings and lootings committed by the past government.
  5. Create an environment to guarantee people’s voting rights and hold a timely national election.
  6. Ensure rights and ownership of all 18 crore people, ending rule by a privileged few.
