Criticism of Political Propaganda

Dr. Mirza Galib, an Assistant Professor at Howard University in the United States, said that if lies and propaganda could stop someone in politics, the Awami League would have stayed in power until 2041. He wrote,

Translation: “If lies and propaganda could stop someone, then the Awami League would have remained in power until 2041.”

He wrote this in a Facebook post on Monday (October 27), criticizing how false political statements are being spread even after changes in the political landscape.

Accusation Against Jamaat Leader Denied

Dr. Mirza Galib mentioned a recent talk show where a co-panelist claimed that the secretary of Jamaat in Sirajganj made an offensive comment about the wives of escaped Awami League leaders. Later, the Jamaat secretary personally called Dr. Galib and denied making any such statement.

He explained that the Jamaat leader had instead said that Awami League voters who were not harmed after August 5 might now consider voting for Jamaat.

Dr. Mirza Galib emphasized that people who make serious claims should present evidence. If someone spreads misinformation without verifying facts, they should apologize.

Misrepresentation of Another Jamaat Leader

He also discussed another incident where a BNP leader accused Jamaat’s Shafiqul Islam Masud of making a statement about weapons at Rajshahi University. Dr. Galib clarified that Masud was only quoting what others had said about Shibir, not making that claim himself.

Lies Cannot Silence Political Voices

Dr. Mirza Galib concluded that while political criticism is natural, spreading deliberate lies and propaganda is unacceptable. He Wrote,

Translation: “It’s normal for political activists to criticize others, but deliberately spreading lies and propaganda is unacceptable.”

He ended by saying that truth and accountability must guide political discussions if the country wants to move forward.
