Police Confirm Case and Investigation

Durgapur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the matter, saying:

“We recorded the case immediately after receiving the complaint. The accused have gone into hiding, and efforts are underway to arrest them.”

Incident Happened Late at Night

According to police and local sources, Imam Abdullah Al Mamun, who teaches at Sutiapara Nurani and Hafezia Madrasa and also serves as imam and khatib of the nearby mosque, had been living with his wife in a small madrasa house with permission from the committee.

On October 2 around 2 AM, several men arrived on motorcycles and called him out by name. When he opened the door, they entered with sharp weapons and demanded Tk 15,000 in extortion money.

When the imam refused, they beat him severely.

The imam added that the attackers stayed in the madrasa for about four hours and warned him not to tell anyone or he would be killed.
