Overall Inflation in Bangladesh Shows Decline
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has reported that the country’s overall inflation rate, on a point-to-point basis, decreased to 8.29% in August. This is a 0.26% drop compared to 8.55% in July.
In August 2024, the inflation rate was much higher at 10.49%, showing that inflationary pressures have eased over the year.

Food Inflation Sees a Small Rise
Despite the overall decline, food inflation saw a slight increase. In August 2025, food inflation stood at 7.60%, compared to 7.56% in July.
Last year in August 2024, the food inflation rate was 11.36%, which means food prices are relatively more stable now compared to the previous year.
Non-Food Inflation in Bangladesh Declines
The non-food inflation rate showed improvement. It dropped from 9.38% in July to 8.90% in August. In August 2024, this rate was 9.74%.
This indicates that non-food items like clothing, housing, education, and health are slightly more affordable compared to the same time last year.
Economists’ Observations
Economists believe that although there has been some relief in food prices compared to last year, the pressure from non-food items continues to keep the overall inflation rate relatively high.
