Interim Government Adviser AF Hassan Ariff, Passes Away Today

Dhaka, December 20, 2024 – AF Hassan Ariff, the advisor to the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the interim government, passed away today (Friday) reportedly due to cardiac arrest at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka. He was 83 years old and breathed his last at 3:10 PM. His death was confirmed by his Assistant Private Secretary (APS), Md. Abed Chowdhury.

Hassan Ariff’s son, Muaz Arif, told the media that his father suddenly collapsed on the floor. He was immediately rushed to Labaid Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

AF Hassan Ariff began his career as a lawyer in 1967 at the Calcutta High Court and later moved to Dhaka, where he practiced at the Bangladesh High Court. He served as the Attorney General of Bangladesh from 2001 to 2005.

In addition, he served as the advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Ministry of Land in the Caretaker Government of 2008-2009. In 2024, he took the oath as an advisor to the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the interim government.

His death has cast a shadow of deep sorrow in the political and legal communities of Bangladesh, and everyone is saddened to hear about his passing. Everyone has expressed their condolences and paid tribute to his contributions.
