Thanks to a joint initiative by the government and service providers, internet costs will be reduced by up to 20%, bringing a transformative change to people’s daily lives and digital accessibility. Internet prices at the ISP (Internet Service Provider) and IIG (International Internet Gateway) levels will drop by 20 percent starting this July, according to Fayez Ahmed Tayeb, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.

He made this announcement on Thursday, May 15, during a press conference held at the BTRC building in Agargaon to mark the celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

From July 1, internet prices at the ISP and IIG levels will be reduced by 20 percent,” Tayeb said. “Prices for consumers will be lowered subsequently.” He also urged mobile operators to align themselves with this initiative, saying, “Our goal is to provide citizens with high-quality internet services at affordable prices.”

Present at the press conference were ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury the Acting Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Md. Zahurul Islam, and BTRC Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad-ul-Bari.
