After Israel’s strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the Iranian government disconnected internet access for its citizens. This internet shutdown in Iran left millions cut off from global news and communication.
In response, American billionaire Elon Musk announced the activation of Starlink a satellite-based internet service to help reconnect people in Iran. He made the announcement on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) at 1:04 AM on Saturday, writing, “The beams are on,” meaning Starlink’s signal was active in Iran. The news was later confirmed by the Jerusalem Post.
Before this, Iran’s Ministry of Communications had issued a statement on Friday saying that temporary internet restrictions were imposed due to the ongoing situation. As tensions between Tehran and Jerusalem escalated, many Iranians lost access to international news and external information.

The internet shutdown in Iran had a huge impact on ordinary people. Cut off from reliable information, they were unable to follow what was happening both inside and outside their country. That’s when Elon Musk’s Starlink stepped in as a lifeline.
Starlink, a service by Musk’s company SpaceX, is designed to provide high-speed internet using satellites. It works even in remote or conflict-affected areas where traditional internet is unavailable or blocked. In moments like this, when a country goes dark digitally, services like Starlink offer a powerful alternative helping people stay connected with the world.
