IRI Survey Says 70% of Bangladeshis Satisfied With Chief Adviser and Interim Government

A new survey by the International Republican Institute (IRI) reveals strong public confidence in Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and the interim government, highlighting widespread satisfaction and optimism about Bangladesh’s political direction.

According to the findings, 69% of respondents believe Dr Yunus is performing well, while 70% say they are satisfied with the actions and direction of the interim administration.

Johanna Kao, Senior Director for Asia-Pacific at IRI, noted,

‘স্পষ্টভাবে বোঝা যাচ্ছে ড. ইউনূসের নেতৃত্বে মানুষ অগ্রগতির সম্ভাবনা দেখছেন। তার এবং অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারের প্রতি জনগণের এই আস্থা স্থিতিশীলতা, জবাবদিহি ও সংস্কারের ব্যাপক প্রত্যাশা তুলে ধরে।’

Translation: “It is clear that people see real potential for progress under Dr Yunus’s leadership. The public trust in him and the interim government reflects high expectations for stability, accountability, and meaningful reforms.”

The survey was conducted by a local research organization on behalf of IRI’s Center for Insights in Survey Research. Data was collected from 13 September to 12 October 2025, using face-to-face interviews supported by Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) technology.

A total of 4,985 participants, aged 18 and above, were surveyed from 63 out of the country’s 64 districts. The only district not included was Rangamati. According to the organization, the survey has a 95% confidence level with a 1.4% margin of error.

The poll also shows strong voter enthusiasm about the upcoming national election.

  • 66% of voters say they are very eager to vote

  • 23% say they are somewhat interested

  • An overwhelming 80% believe the election will be free and fair

Director Kao further said,

‘বাংলাদেশিদের এই উৎসাহ-উদ্দীপনা প্রমাণ করে সংস্কার প্রক্রিয়া ধরে রাখা এবং নির্বাচনকে বিশ্বাসযোগ্য ও শান্তিপূর্ণ করা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।’ 

Translation: “This level of enthusiasm among Bangladeshis highlights how essential it is to keep the reform process on track and to ensure that the election remains credible and peaceful.”

IRI has been conducting regular public opinion surveys in Bangladesh and continues its work to promote responsible, issue-based political engagement ahead of the upcoming polls.
