He made these remarks on Saturday (October 11) while addressing a roundtable discussion titled “Islamic Education in the Cycle of Crisis: Strategies for Overcoming Challenges”, organized by the Islamic Studies Forum at the National Press Club.
Concerns Over Lack of Religious Education
Several prominent academics, including Professor Dr. A. K. M. Wareesul Karim Bulbul, Professor Dr. Abu Zafar Khan, Professor Mia Muhammad Nurul Haque, and others, attended the discussion.
The speakers stated that Bangladesh is a religious nation, and Islam is the state religion, yet the national education policy has not properly emphasized Islamic and moral education at any level.
They argued that because of this, many people seek religious knowledge from unverified sources, leading to misinterpretations, superstitions, and extremism. The lack of structured religious education, they said, has created moral decay across society and the state.

Demand for Policy Change in Higher Secondary Education
Speakers criticized the 2025–26 admission policy, which has kept Islamic Education as an optional subject (fourth subject) at the higher secondary level. They called it a repetition of secular policy and a betrayal of the martyrs of the July Revolution.
They demanded that Islamic Education be included as a mandatory subject in all streams — Humanities, Science, and Business Studies — to build a morally strong and religiously conscious generation.
