The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has clarified that the aircraft that crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara was not a training aircraft, as previously reported by some media outlets. In a press release issued on Tuesday (22 July), the ISPR emphasized that the aircraft was a fighter jet designed for combat, though it was participating in a training mission at the time.

According to the statement, the FT-7 BGI fighter jet of the Bangladesh Air Force took off from Kurmitola Air Base A K Khandaker at 1:06 PM. Shortly after takeoff, due to mechanical failure, the aircraft crashed into a two-story building within the school compound. The Fire Service and Civil Defence received the first report of the crash at 1:18 PM.

The Chinese-made FT-7 BGI is a combat aircraft that is also used in training missions. It was one such mission that tragically ended in the crash.

The ISPR urged the media to report the incident accurately, stating:

“Several reports claimed that it was a training aircraft. We would like to respectfully clarify again that it was a fighter aircraft capable of combat, which was on a training mission.”

The rest of the deceased are all students of the school, according to Dr. Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the Chief Adviser, during a briefing on Tuesday morning.

This tragic incident has left the entire nation in mourning, as the loss of so many young lives in such a horrific manner is beyond comprehension.
