Israeli Officer Killed in Gaza

During Israel’s ongoing military operation in Gaza, an Israeli army officer lost his life. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Gaza City, the main city of the Gaza Strip, during clashes with Hamas fighters controlling the region.

The deceased officer has been identified as Sahar Natanel Bozaglo, 27. He was a major and served as the company commander of the 7th Armored Brigade, 77th Battalion of the Israeli army.

Attack Details

According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), on Monday morning, Hamas fighters fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) targeting an Israeli tank in Gaza City. Bozaglo was inside the tank and suffered serious injuries from the RPG attack.

He was immediately taken to a hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

Background of the Operation

The IDF began operations in Gaza in response to a Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the capture of 251 hostages. The ongoing operation aims to rescue hostages and respond to the sudden assault.

Since the operation began, over 63,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 170,000 injured. On the Israeli side, more than 800 soldiers have died, and over 5,000 have been injured.

First Israeli Soldier Death Since Full-Scale Occupation

Last week, the IDF launched a full-scale occupation operation in Gaza. This marks the first Israeli soldier casualty since that operation began.
