Prominent BNP leader and engineer Ishraque Hossain has called for the application of the same law—under which Awami League leaders are now being held accountable—for the long-overdue trial of the 1971 genocide, rapes, and looting. In a Facebook post made on Saturday afternoon, Ishraque raised critical questions about historical justice and the nation’s current political and ideological divisions.
Ishraq Hossain wrote in the post,
১৯৭১ সালের ঘটনা ছিল আরও ভয়াবহ ও বীভৎস। সেই সময়ে সংঘটিত অপরাধের বিচার এক সময় রাজনৈতিক হাতিয়ারে পরিণত করেন শেখ হাসিনা, যাতে প্রতিপক্ষকে দমন করা যায়। যদি সেই সময়ে নিরপেক্ষভাবে শহিদ ও ধর্ষিতাদের যথাযথ বিচার হতো, তাহলে আজ জাতি এভাবে বিভক্ত হতো না।
Translation: The events of 1971 were even more horrific and horrific. Sheikh Hasina once turned the trial of the crimes committed at that time into a political tool to suppress her opponents. If the martyrs and rapists had been impartially tried properly at that time, the nation would not have been divided like this today.

He said,
এত বছর পরও যখন দেখা যায়, ১৯৭১ সালের খুনি-ধর্ষকরা কিংবা তাদের উত্তরসূরীরা নির্লজ্জভাবে বলেন যে— পাক হানাদারদের সঙ্গে রাজাকারি করে হত্যা ও ধর্ষণের সিদ্ধান্ত নাকি সঠিক ছিল; তখন বোঝা যায়, আমাদের দুর্ভাগ্যের সীমা কোথায় পৌঁছেছে। আল্লাহ এদের বিচার করবেন—এই দুনিয়াতে না হোক, পরকালে নিশ্চয় করবেন।
Translation: Even after so many years, when it is seen that the murderers and rapists of 1971 or their successors shamelessly say that the decision to kill and rape by joining the Razakari with the Pakistani invaders was right; then it is understood where our misfortune has reached. Allah will judge them – whether in this world or in the hereafter.
He further said,
“আমরা পিন্ডির দাসত্ব, দিল্লির অনুগত্য কিংবা আমেরিকা, রাশিয়া, চীনের মতো কোনও পরাশক্তির কাছে মাথা নত করবো না। এমন কিছু লোক সব সময় থাকবে যারা দালালি পেশায় নিজেদের সুবিধা আদায় করে। এ এক নগ্ন ও ঘৃণ্য বাস্তবতা। বহির্বিশ্ব তখনই হস্তক্ষেপের সুযোগ পায়, যখন একটি জাতি অভ্যন্তরীণভাবে বিভক্ত হয়ে যায়।”
Translation: We will not bow down to the slavery of Pindi, the loyalty of Delhi or any superpower like America, Russia, China. There will always be some people who seek their own benefits in the brokerage profession. This is a naked and disgusting reality. The outside world gets a chance to intervene only when a nation is internally divided.”
The BNP leader said,
“এই বিভাজন শত বছরেও আসতে দিতাম না—যদি আমরা জাতি হিসেবে আমাদের অগ্রাধিকার নির্ধারণ করতে পারতাম। যদিও ছোটভাই নতুন রাজনৈতিক দল এবং তাদের চালক বড়ভাই রাজনৈতিক দল এখন পর্যন্ত আওয়ামী লীগ মডেলের কৃত্বিত ছিনতাই রাজনীতির পথেই হাঁটছে, জনগণ শেখ হাসিনার দুঃশাসনের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়িয়েছিল।”
Translation: “We would not have allowed this division to come even in a hundred years—if we could have determined our priorities as a nation. Although the younger brother new political party and their driving elder brother political party are still walking on the path of the Awami League model of robbery politics, the people stood up against Sheikh Hasina’s misrule.”
Ishraq Hossain further said,
“লাখো ছাত্র ও লাখো পরিবার, লাখো নেতাকর্মী ও তাদের পরিবার একত্রিত হয়ে হাসিনাকে পালাতে বাধ্য করেছিল। কিন্তু পরবর্তী সময়ে সেই আন্দোলনের আবেগ ও ত্যাগকে কিছু সমন্বয়কারী, উপদেষ্টা ও এনসিপির নেতা বিক্রি করতে শুরু করেন। এর ফলাফল কী হতে পারে—তার প্রকৃষ্ট উদাহরণ নিজেই শেখ হাসিনা।”
Translation: “Lakhs of students and lakhs of families, lakhs of leaders and activists and their families came together to force Hasina to flee. But later, some coordinators, advisors and NCP leaders started selling the passion and sacrifice of that movement. Sheikh Hasina herself is the best example of what the result of this can be.”
