Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has never held a rally at this venue before. For the first time, the party is set to organize a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. Jamaat has announced a “National Rally” at the location on July 19.
The historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital is a well-known venue for major meetings and rallies by various political parties and organizations.
The rally will begin at 2:00 PM on July 19. Under the supervision of the party’s Ameer and senior leadership, organizational activities are reportedly underway across Dhaka and the rest of the country to ensure the success of the rally.
It is worth mentioning that after the political shift that began with the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 last year, the BNP, Islami Andolon, and several other organizations held major rallies in the capital.
Among them, Islami Andolon, Olama Mashayekh Bangladesh, and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh organized large-scale gatherings at Suhrawardy Udyan on various issues.

BNP held several rallies in Nayapaltan. Jamaat, however, had not organized any major gathering in Dhaka, except for a rally at Purana Paltan intersection demanding the release of its then-imprisoned (now freed) leader A.T.M. Azharul Islam.
Regarding the July 19 rally, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher told the media, “Jamaat-e-Islami has never held a public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan alone. This will be our first.”
He stated that the rally aims to build public support for fair elections, creating a level playing field beforehand, implementing a proportional representation (PR) voting system, and holding local government elections prior to the national polls.
To organize the event, the party has formed a committee led by its Secretary General, Mia Golam Porwar. Several sub-committees have also been formed under the leadership of central party leaders.
