Arrest in Tangail
Police arrested Jubo League Leader Shah Joni, on charges linked to the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement. Acting on a tip-off, police caught him on Sunday night from a red-light area in Tangail town.
Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tanvir Ahmed confirmed the arrest.

Court Appearance
On Monday afternoon, Shah Joni was presented before the court. The legal process is now underway against him in connection with the earlier filed case.
Background of the Case
The case dates back to 4 August 2024, when an anti-discrimination protest rally was attacked at Bottola area in Tangail town. Gunshots were fired during the rally, and a man named Lal Mia from Chinamura village of Kalihati was shot and injured.
Later, Lal Mia filed a case accusing the president and general secretary of Tangail District Awami League along with 230 others. The case also included 150–200 unidentified individuals.
In that case, Jubo League Leader Shah Joni was listed as the 41st accused.
Police confirmed that Shah Joni is the son of Md. Israfil, a resident of Akurtakur Para area in Tangail town.
