Jute product usage should be increased: Environmental Advisor

Jute Diversification Promotion Center in Manipuripara, Farmgate, the Environment Advisor emphasized the importance of promoting eco-friendly and sustainable jute products. It held on Sunday (March 9) while visiting the stalls at the “Multipurpose Jute Product Fair & Handloom Textile Fair 2025.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as well as the Ministry of Water Resources, stated that increasing the use of jute products is essential to reducing the harmful effects of polythene. She highlighted that expanding the diversified use of jute products is crucial for ensuring sustainable development. The government is working to make essential jute products more accessible to the public at affordable prices.

The Environment Advisor remarked that jute is a symbol of our heritage and a promising sector for an eco friendly economy. While the government is providing policy support to revitalize the jute industry, entrepreneurs must also come forward. She thanked the organizers of the fair and urged them to take more innovative initiatives to promote jute products. She also emphasized the need to expand these eco-friendly products beyond the local market to international markets. At the event, Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the Ministry of Commerce stated that various government agencies including the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change along with private entrepreneurs are working together to increase the use of jute products.

Both advisors toured different at the fair and praised the diverse use of domestic jute products. The Executive Director (Additional Secretary) of the Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) Zeenat Ara along with senior officials was present at the event. Entrepreneurs at the fair showcased a variety of jute products, including bags, household items, fashion accessories, shoes and furniture.
