Jamaat Announces Hindu Candidate for Khulna-1

Jamaat-e-Islami has announced businessman Krishna Nandi as its candidate for the Khulna-1 (Dacope–Batiaghata) constituency, which is known as a Hindu-majority area.

The announcement was made on Wednesday evening (3 December) during a party meeting held at the Jamaat office in Khulna.

Candidate Confirmation

Multiple senior leaders of Khulna Jamaat, as well as Krishna Nandi himself, confirmed that he has received the nomination. Rumors about his possible nomination had already started last week.

Nandi is currently the president of Jamaat’s Dumuria Upazila Sanatan Wing.

Who Is Krishna Nandi?

According to local sources, Krishna Nandi is a businessman from the Chunkhola commercial area in Dumuria. He owns several business establishments there.

Earlier, he was known to be close to former Awami League MP Narayan Chandra Chanda.

After the mass uprising, Nandi developed a political understanding with Jamaat Secretary General and Khulna-5 candidate Mia Golam Porwar. He has also been seen speaking on stage at Jamaat events, seeking votes for their election symbol.

Nandi’s Reaction After Being Nominated

When asked about his nomination, Krishna Nandi told Jamuna Television:

“অবশেষে প্রথম হিন্দু প্রার্থী হিসেবে জামায়াত আমাকে মনোনয়ন দিয়েছে। আজ সন্ধ্যায় প্রার্থী হিসেবে আমার নাম ঘোষণা করা হয়।”

Translation: “Finally, Jamaat has nominated me as the first Hindu candidate. My name was announced as the candidate this evening.”

Election Campaign to Begin

Krishna Nandi is hopeful about winning the election. He said that he will start his campaign activities from tomorrow.
