The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned the flying of lanterns and bursting of fireworks or crackers on the occasion of the Thirty-First Night. The decision was taken at the DMP’s security and traffic management coordination meeting on Thursday (December 12).
It was informed in the meeting that this year, on the occasion of the Christmas celebration, a sufficient number of police personnel in uniform and plain clothes will be deployed in every church. Visitors will have to enter each church through the archway. In this case, a metal detector and manual search will be carried out. In addition, there will be a fire service and ambulance system. It was also informed that no bags of any kind will be allowed to enter the church.
It was also informed that regular patrols and check posts will be increased on the occasion of the Thirty-First Night, as well as police activity will be increased. Flying fireworks, crackers and lanterns in any open place will be completely prohibited. The meeting was also informed that no one will be allowed to enter the Dhaka University area without an ID card on this day.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said that Christmas, the biggest religious festival of Christians, will be celebrated across the country on December 25 and Thirty-First Night on December 31. DMP will take flawless security measures to maintain law and order around these two festivals.
