In a welcome move for households across Bangladesh, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been reduced for May 2025. If you’re someone who relies on gas cylinders for cooking, this might be a small but helpful relief in your monthly expenses.
What’s the New Price for LPG?
The price of a standard 12-kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Tk 19, bringing it down to Tk 1,431. Until now, consumers were paying Tk 1,450.
The new price officially comes into effect today at 6 PM, according to the announcement by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC). This slight price cut, though not massive, comes as a breather at a time when utility costs are rising for many families.
How Much Will Other Cylinder Sizes Cost Now?
BERC has also updated the prices for other cylinder sizes, making it easier for both residential and commercial users to budget accordingly. Here’s a quick look at the new rates:
-
12.5 kg – Tk 1,491
-
15 kg – Tk 1,789
-
16 kg – Tk 1,908
-
18 kg – Tk 2,146
-
20 kg – Tk 2,385
-
22 kg – Tk 2,623
-
25 kg – Tk 2,981
-
30 kg – Tk 3,577
-
33 kg – Tk 3,935
-
35 kg – Tk 4,173
-
45 kg – Tk 5,366
Autogas Price Also Sees a Reduction
Alongside the adjustment in household LPG prices, the retail price of autogas has also been revised. For May 2025, the new rate has been set at Tk 65.57 per liter, down from the previous rate of Tk 66.41. This change offers moderate relief for transport operators and vehicle owners using LPG as fuel.

A Quick Look Back at Recent Price Trends
Over the past few months, LPG prices have seen both increases and decreases:
-
February 2025: Price went up by Tk 19 to Tk 1,478
-
March 2025: Price dropped by Tk 28, down to Tk 1,450
-
April 2025: Price remained unchanged
-
May 2025: Now reduced again by Tk 19 to Tk 1,431
So while prices have fluctuated, it’s good to see some downward movement in May specially before the peak summer months when energy demands tend to spike.
BERC Press Conference
The new pricing structure was revealed during a press conference at the BERC office. Key officials in attendance included:
-
Jalal Ahmed, Chairman
-
Md. Abdur Razzak, Member (Finance, Admin & Law)
-
Md. Mizanur Rahman, Member (Gas)
-
Dr. Syeda Sultana Razia, Member (Petroleum)
-
Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Mohammad Shahid Sarwar, Member (Electricity)
They emphasized that the adjustments are based on international market trends and the dollar exchange rate, both of which play a major role in determining fuel prices in Bangladesh.
Why LPG Prices Matter So Much
In Bangladesh, LPG has become a lifeline for millions specially in areas where natural gas connections are not available. For rural families, small businesses, and even city dwellers living in apartments, LPG is a reliable source of energy. A reduction in LPG prices, no matter how small, can ease household budgets and offer some relief from inflation-driven cost pressures.
While a Tk 19 reduction may not feel like a huge amount to some, in today’s economy, every bit of savings matters. It shows that the authorities are at least responding to changes in the international energy market and trying to pass on the benefits to everyday people. Let’s hope this trend continues and that future updates bring even more relief to consumers.
