Family’s allegations and police response to the case
Enayet Hossain Saikat, the elder brother of the deceased, said,
Translation: “We wanted to file a case against five people—student Barsha, her parents, Barsha’s boyfriend Mahir Rahman, and Mahir’s friend Nafis. But the OC of Bangshal police station refused to take up the case.”
He further complained,
Translation: ‘The OC said it would not be right to give the names of so many people. If we give the names of Barsha’s parents, the case will become lighter. But we want to give their names. We want justice for our brother’s murder.’
In this regard, Bangshal Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said,
Translation: “We will take up the case in the name of the person they want to name. I have only advised them to discuss it with the university teachers and make a final decision.”
The reason for the delay in taking the case was that the OC was not at the police station from 1 am to 3 am, and later came and suggested reducing the number of accused, which further delayed the proceedings of the case.
Investigation and interrogation
After the incident, the police took Barsha into custody for interrogation.
He was brought from his home to the police station around 11 pm on Sunday after a long interrogation. Police say that all evidence, including CCTV footage, is being verified in the investigation to uncover the reason behind the murder.
