Mahmudullah decline of BCB central contract 2025

Bangladesh cricketer Mahmudullah Riyad requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) not to offer him a central contract beyond March 2025, according to a report from Cricbuzz on Monday (10 March). His decision has raised questions about the future of Mahmudullah Riyad’s international career.

As per the proposal list for the 2025 central contract, Mahmudullah was initially placed in the Grade B category. Moreover, a BCB official confirmed that the veteran 38-year-old all-rounder has requested to opt out. The official revealed,“ He asked the board not to consider him for the next central contract from March onwards.” As the contract starts at the beginning of the year, Mahmudullah will still receive his salary for January and February. Throughout the last BCB board meeting, the central contract draft was discussed, but it will not be immediately finalized.

Particularly since the Champion Trophy Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim position is in the national team under review. Recently Mushfiqur announced his retirement from ODIs and maybe speculated that Mahmudullah, who played 239 ODIs in his 18-year career, will soon follow suit. Mahmudullah informed the board of his decision not to take part in the next World Cup in 2027. His steps away from the central contract strongly indicate that his cricket career may be nearing its final chapter. Mahmudullah plays a vital role in Bangladesh cricket.
