Shahriar Kabir Sajal (35) has been arrested by the police on charge of raping a woman in the guise of providing legal assistance. The accused is from Chhoto Dap village in Atwari Upazila under Panchagarh district.
Verifying the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rifat Al Afsani of Vatara Police Station informed that Sajal was arrested and brought to court. A case has been filed in this regard.
The victim reported that she had been looking for justice for a long time due to her husband’s deception. In the process of seeking legal aid, Sajal took advantage of her situation. On Thursday, February 20, he took her to his residence at the Vatara locality under the promise of legal aid and raped her forcefully. He also threatened her not to disclose the incident.
SI Rifat Al Afsani further informed that the victim has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). She was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at DMCH on Sunday, February 23. OCC coordinator Dr. Sabina Yasmin confirmed her admission, stating necessary forensic and medical tests would be conducted on Monday.
