Political analyst Manjurul Alam Panna has exposed serious extortion allegations against influential government advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiya. A video linked to the case has gone viral, raising questions about the accountability of government officials and the authenticity of the claims.
Advisor Accused of Night-Time Extortion
Political analyst and journalist Manjurul Alam Panna has revealed that a high-profile government advisor, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiya, faces serious allegations of extortion. A video related to the case has already gone viral on social media.
Panna said:
“এতদিন আমরা জেনেছি, এনসিপির অনেক শীর্ষ নেতার বিরুদ্ধে চাঁদাবাজি, তদবির বাণিজ্য, নিয়োগ ও দখল বাণিজ্যের মতো গুরুতর অভিযোগ রয়েছে। এবং কিছু ক্ষেত্রে তার প্রমাণও সামনে এসেছে। এমনকি সরকারের কিছু উপদেষ্টার বিরুদ্ধেও এ ধরনের অভিযোগ উঠেছে।”
Translation: “All this time, we have known that many top leaders of the NCP have faced serious allegations such as extortion, lobbying trade, appointments, and property grabbing. In some cases, there is also proof. Even some government advisors have faced such accusations.”
However, the current allegations against Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiya remain at the complaint level. Panna questioned: who will verify the truth behind these claims?

Viral Video and Its Details
The viral video was reportedly made by Jane Alam Apu, accused in the Gulshan extortion case. Panna explained that Apu probably released the 35-minute confessional video before his arrest to protect himself.
In the video, Apu stated:
“আমি নিজেই চাঁদার টাকার ব্যাগ নিতে গিয়েছিলাম এবং অভিযানে অংশ নেওয়ার সময় একজন উপদেষ্টার সঙ্গে আমার সরাসরি কথা হয়। অভিযানের আগের রাতে গুলশানের এক হোটেলের নিচে বাইক ও হেলমেট পরে থাকা একজন ব্যক্তি ছিলেন। আমি তাকে স্থানীয় সরকার বিষয়ক উপদেষ্টা আসিফ মাহমুদ সজীব ভূঁইয়া বলে মনে করি।”
Translation: “I personally took the extorted money bag, and during the operation, I spoke directly with an advisor. The night before the operation, a person wearing a helmet on a bike was under a hotel in Gulshan. I believe that person was local government advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiya.”
Apu questioned why an advisor would be on the streets of Gulshan at 4 AM and speak with him directly. He added that the entire process was followed by informing the DC and AC of the Gulshan zone before the operation.
Alleged Conspiracy and Rising Suspicion
Apu also claimed that a conspiracy was being planned against him and that the video release was meant to prevent any forced confessions later:
“আমাকে ষড়যন্ত্র করে ফাঁসানোর চেষ্টা করা হচ্ছে এবং তাই এই ভিডিওটি আগেই প্রকাশ্যে আনার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম। যাতে পরে অন্য কোনো ‘স্ক্রিপ্ট’ তৈরি করে আমার বিরুদ্ধে জোরপূর্বক স্বীকারোক্তি আদায় করা না হয়।”
Translation: “I am being conspired against, so I decided to release this video beforehand to prevent any scripted forced confessions later.”
He further mentioned that other individuals were also involved in the incident, calling it an “open secret.” He highlighted the sudden lifestyle upgrade of certain people, hinting at corruption and illegal gains.
CCTV Footage Supports Allegations
A CCTV clip has also gone viral, showing a helmeted individual approaching Apu on a motorbike. Apu claims the person is advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiya.
Panna remarked:
“অনেকে বলবেন, এটি আসিফ ভুইয়াকে ফাঁসানোর চক্রান্ত। তবে ঘটনাটি কি একেবারে উড়িয়ে দেওয়া যায়? সরকারদলীয় উপদেষ্টার বিরুদ্ধে এমন ভিডিওসহ অভিযোগ অবশ্যই চাঞ্চল্যকর।”
Translation: “Many will say this is a conspiracy to frame Asif Bhuiya. But can this incident be completely ignored? Allegations against a ruling party advisor with such a video are indeed sensational.”
He also noted that top NCP leaders have faced similar allegations in the past, including appointments, property grabs, and extortion, yet no action was taken until this video went viral.
Questions on Legal Process
Panna questioned the long remand of the accused:
“একজনকে ১০ দিনের রিমান্ডে নেওয়ার মতো কী অপরাধ হয়েছে? শুধুই চাঁদাবাজির অভিযোগে এমন দীর্ঘ রিমান্ড কি যৌক্তিক?”
Translation: “What crime justifies a 10-day remand? Is such a long remand reasonable for mere extortion allegations?”
He suggested that the remand might be used to force scripted statements from the accused, raising concerns about transparency and fairness.
The viral video, CCTV evidence, and accompanying allegations have triggered public debate over corruption and extortion at high levels of government. While the truth is yet to be officially verified, the situation has created widespread concern and scrutiny over accountability in public office.
