Members of the families of those killed on 24 July have issued a stern warning to the government. They declared that if the “July Charter” is not published within this month, no election will be allowed in the country. This statement was made during a remembrance gathering held on Saturday afternoon at the China-Maitree Conference Center in Dhaka.
(“If the July Charter is not released within this month, no election will be allowed in the country.”)
Protest Planned Against the Government
The event was jointly organized by the July 24 Martyr Family Society and the National Youth Alliance Bangladesh. During the program, the families also announced that they would soon take to the streets in protest against the government’s inaction.
They criticized the lack of progress in justice and accountability, even after a year of the uprising.
(“A revolutionary government was supposed to be formed after the uprising, but even after a year, there is no visible justice for the killings.”)

Anger Over Chief Adviser’s Absence
Although invited, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus did not attend the remembrance program. This angered many martyr family members who felt disrespected.
(“If they won’t attend, they should say so beforehand. We don’t have time. We condemn the entire advisory panel.”)
Final Deadline for Government
The family members gave a final deadline to the government, saying they must release the July Charter by the first week of August or face massive protests once again.
(“If the government fails to publish the July Charter by the first week of August, we will take to the streets again. It will be a shame for the government.”)
Political Leaders Back the Demands
Several leaders from different political parties also joined the program and voiced support for the martyr families. They warned that if the interim government does not engage with the families and release the charter, they will be forced to step down.
(“If this interim government doesn’t sit with the martyr families and release the charter, they will be forced out of office.”)
