Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury faced criticism after placing a promotional poster for her film *”Priyo Maloti”* over a graffiti memorial dedicated to Sohagi Jahan Tonu at Dhaka University’s TSC. The incident sparked backlash on social media, with demands for a public apology.
Responding promptly, Mehazabien returned to TSC, removed the poster, and observed a minute of silence. She later issued an apology on Facebook, calling the act an “unintentional mistake” due to mismanagement during the campaign. She emphasized her commitment to justice and sought understanding from the public.
she wrote:
“For the promotion of the movie Priyo Maloti, a team and I visited TSC today (December 17). Many fans joined us during the campaign, and due to the overwhelming crowd and unavoidable circumstances, we had to quickly wrap up the postering campaign. Unfortunately, due to unintentional mismanagement, a poster was placed over the graffiti dedicated to the memory of martyr Tonu.
We are all aware of Tonu’s heartbreaking story and the ongoing fight for justice for her murder. What happened with the postering was an entirely inadvertent mistake. We immediately removed the posters and stood in silence for one minute to honor her memory.
The core message of our movie, our team, and our efforts is to fight for justice. This comes from the bottom of our hearts. We sincerely hope you will view this unintended misstep with understanding. Thank you for your support.”
