Mehrin Ahmed, seeking protection from physical and mental abuse, has filed a case in which her mother Jannatul Ferdous and father Nasir Ahmed have appeared in court.
On Thursday (July 10), the hearing was held before Metropolitan Magistrate M A Azharul Islam at the Dhaka court with their presence. The court has set July 24 for delivering the order. This information was shared by the plaintiff’s lawyer Isfakur Rahman Galib.
During the hearing, Mehrin accused her parents, saying, “They (my mother and father) brought me into this world, but that is not my fault. I am not their puppet. Why do they curse me? They have physically and mentally harassed me. I cannot eat or sleep. They admitted me to a mental hospital where I was kept for two years. There, I was subjected to physical and mental abuse.”

She further said, “I want to know why I was kept in that hospital. I wanted a good life but I am not getting it. I want my safety. I want justice.” During her statement, Mehrin’s mother Jannatul Ferdous stood at the dock, bowing her head, listening silently. On the other hand, her father Nasir Ahmed listened to her speech with a fixed gaze.
Earlier, on June 22, Mehrin, a student of an English medium school in the capital, filed the case in the same court against her father Nasir Ahmed and mother Jannatul Ferdous, seeking protection and accusing them of assault. On that day, the court fixed July 10 for hearing both parties.
According to the case allegations, on the evening of May 25 at around 7 pm at their home in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka, Mehrin Ahmed was physically assaulted and verbally abused by her mother and father, causing injuries. Despite being an adult, they interfere with her personal freedom, insult, and torture her regularly. They often prevent her from using household necessities.
The allegations also state that due to family conflicts, Mehrin has been deprived of her rightful access to assets and facilities and prevented from exercising her legal rights. They have caused her mental harm through verbal abuse, insults, humiliation, intimidation, and cursing. They have physically assaulted her, causing violence.
