Meta, one of the world’s top technology companies, is now moving forward with the goal of surpassing the power of the human brain. The company is on the path to developing an artificial intelligence (AI) technology, ‘super intelligence’ that will be more powerful than normal human intelligence.
To this end, Meta plans to build a new high-performance research laboratory. The company is said to be investing hundreds of millions of dollars in implementing this research center. Meta is partnering with Scale AI co-founder and current CEO Alexander Wang to help with the project, and is also likely to hire experienced Scale AI staff at substantial salaries.
Meta’s advancement in artificial intelligence
Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, has been working tirelessly on AI development for a decade. After failing to acquire DeepMind, which was then owned by Google in 2013, Meta established its own full-fledged artificial intelligence lab. This research center is currently led by Ian LeCun, an influential figure in the field of artificial intelligence, professor at New York University, and 2018 Turing Award winner.
Lekun, who is considered a pioneer in neural network technology, believes that it is not possible to create true AI of general intelligence (AGI) with current conventional technology. According to him, achieving AGI requires a completely new framework and revolutionary ideas.

Meta AI reaches out to users
Meta has already launched several AI-based products, most notably a chatbot called ‘Meta AI’. The chatbot is currently used on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Ray-Ban smart glasses. Zuckerberg announced in May that more than one billion people are currently using Meta AI every month, a major example of the popularity and acceptance of AI technology.
The rise of scale AI
Alexander Wang and Lucy Guo founded Scale AI in 2016. However, Lucy Guo later left the company. Initially, Scale AI helped large technology companies, including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Canada-based Coher, develop artificial intelligence. However, over time, Scale AI has now also started working with government agencies and corporate organizations in various countries.
This new initiative from Meta is not just a technological breakthrough; it could change the future intellectual and technological trajectory of humanity. It remains to be seen how long it will take for the dream of superintelligence of Meta, led by scientist Lekun, and partnered with Scale AI to become a reality.
