Two Metro Cards Going Online
Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) is preparing to introduce online recharge facilities for both Rapid Pass and MRT Pass, the two permanent cards used in the metro rail system.
According to DTCA officials, the online recharge system for Rapid Pass is expected to begin by mid-October 2025 if all preparations go smoothly.

Recharge Limit and Payment Options
Passengers will be able to recharge between Tk 100 and Tk 5,000 online.
Payments can be made through any bank card, as well as popular mobile financial services such as Nagad, bKash, and Rocket. Additionally, internet banking will also be available for the transactions.
DTCA Preparing Infrastructure
DTCA sources confirmed that the Rapid Pass website is being prepared for online recharges.
They have also started installing Add Value Machines (AVMs) at metro stations to support the process.
At the initial stage, four AVMs will be installed at each of the 16 metro stations, allowing passengers to load their recharged amount directly onto their cards.
Future Plans: Mobile NFC and App Recharge
DTCA is planning to make the metro service more advanced by introducing NFC-supported mobile recharge options.
Once this system is launched, passengers will be able to recharge Rapid cards and purchase tickets directly from a mobile app without visiting any station.

Registration Required for Online Recharge
To use the online recharge system, a passenger must have a registered Rapid or MRT Pass card.
If not registered, users can easily complete registration through the Rapid Pass website.
After registration, they can go to the recharge option, select a payment method, and confirm the amount. Once successful, a confirmation message will appear, and the balance can be added to the card by tapping it at any AVM machine.
Over 1.6 million Users Already Using Metro Cards
Currently, around 16 lakh (1.6 million) passengers use Rapid and MRT Pass cards for metro travel.
Initially, 60,000 cards were registered, and by September 25, an additional 5,000 users completed their registration online.
DTCA expects that with the new online recharge system, more passengers will register their cards, making metro travel faster, smarter, and more digitalized.
