Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, reopened on Sunday, August 3, after being closed for 12 days due to a tragic aircraft accident on July 21. No academic classes were held on the reopening day; instead, a memorial event was arranged to honour the victims of the crash.
School Reopens Quietly After 12 Days
After remaining closed for nearly two weeks following the tragic aircraft crash on July 21, Milestone School and College reopened on Sunday, August 3, on a limited scale. However, academic activities such as regular classes or exams were not resumed.

Memorial and Prayer Event Held Instead of Classes
On the first day of reopening, the school organized a mourning and prayer session from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in memory of those who lost their lives in the crash. The program was attended by:

School’s Statement: Focus on Mental Health and Safety
Milestone College’s Public Relations Officer Shah Bulbul told the media that the reopening was carefully planned to provide emotional support and ensure student safety.
“দুর্ঘটনার পর শিক্ষার্থীদের মানসিক সহায়তা ও নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করতে ছুটি বাড়ানো হয়। আজ শ্রদ্ধা ও দোয়া অনুষ্ঠান দিয়ে শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম ধীরে ধীরে চালু করা হবে।”
Translation: “The break was extended to ensure students’ mental support and safety after the accident. Today, we’re restarting the educational activities slowly with a tribute and prayer event.”
He also confirmed that no classes or exams would be held on the first day.
Three Rounds of Holiday Announcements
Since the plane crash incident on July 21, the school authority declared three rounds of holidays to allow time for recovery. The final extension kept the institution closed until August 2.
Administrative Work Continued and Help Center Formed
Even though academic sessions were suspended, administrative tasks continued during the closure. A control room was also set up to assist the injured and their families during this difficult time.
