BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has said that the government has decayed from top to bottom. He warned that if the current regime stays in power any longer, it will end up being worse than it already is.
He made these remarks on Wednesday (May 28) at a grand youth rally in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka. The main speaker at the rally was BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who joined virtually from London.
The event was organized jointly by three of BNP’s wings and affiliated organizations: Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal (Youth Wing), Swechchhasebak Dal (Volunteers’ Wing), and Chhatra Dal (Student Wing), representing the divisions of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Faridpur. The program was titled “Establishing the Political Rights of the Youth.”
Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna presided over the rally, while Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Rajib Ahsan and Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir jointly conducted the event.
Among other senior BNP leaders who spoke at the rally were Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed.

In his speech, Mirza Abbas said that-
“This youth rally is sending a powerful message. It’s inspiring us to act. The current interim government, which was once seen as a symbol of public trust, has completely failed to live up to people’s expectations. Instead of trust, all we received from them was disrespect. This is not a democratic government—it’s a colonial one. What they couldn’t achieve in nine months, they won’t achieve in nine years or even ninety years. It’s time they apologized to the people.”
তারুণ্যের এই মহাসমাবেশ বিরাট বার্তা দিচ্ছে। যা আমাদের আন্দোলিত করেছে। বর্তমান অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকার গণমানুষের আকাক্ষ্মিত সরকার। সরকার আস্থার প্রতীক ছিল। তাদের কাছ থেকে আস্থার কিছু পাইনি। শুধুই অবজ্ঞা পেয়েছি। সরকার ঔপনিবেশিক সরকার। তারা ৯ মাসে যা পারেনি, ৯ বছরেও পারবে না এবং ৯০ বছরেও তা পারবে না। অতএব জনগণের কাছে ক্ষমা চেয়ে কী করবেন করেন।
He also raised concerns about geopolitical matters. Referring to issues like corridors and ports, he said:
“They are negotiating over transit corridors. But we don’t care about profit or loss, we just want to remain the way we are. Now they’re trying to hand over the New Mooring Terminal. Don’t take the people of this country for fools.”
করিডোর নিয়ে কথা হচ্ছে। লাভ-লোকসান দেখতে চাই না। যেমন ছিলাম তেমনই থাকতে চাই। আবার নিউম্যুরিং টার্মিনাল দিয়ে দিতে চাচ্ছেন। দেশের মানুষকে বোকা ভাববেন না।
Regarding the launch of Starlink services, Abbas questioned the government’s intent:
“Why was Starlink brought in? For the Arakan Army? We’ve lived without Starlink. Who are the corridors for? For transporting supplies to the Arakan Army? As long as we live, we will protect our country’s independence and sovereignty.”
স্টারলিংক এনেছেন কার জন্য? আরাকান আর্মির জন্য। আমরা কিন্তু স্টারলিংক ছাড়াই চলেছি। করিডোর কার জন্য? আরাকান আর্মির মালমসলা পাঠানোর জন্য। আমরা জীবন থাকতে দেশের স্বাধীনতা সার্বভৌমত্ব অটুট রাখব।
On the issue of extortion, Abbas said that “There are people across the country extorting in the name of BNP. I ask the law enforcement agencies, why don’t you arrest these extortionists?”
দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে অনেকেই চাঁদাবাজি করে বিএনপির নাম ব্যবহার করে। এ বিষয়ে আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীকে বলব, আপনারা চাঁদাবাজদের গ্রেপ্তার করেন না কেন?
