Chattogram is all set to build Bangladesh’s first monorail, a big step forward in solving the port city’s growing traffic problems.

The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two international companies are Orascom Group and Arab Contractors Group  to start the project. These two firms, one from Germany and the other from Egypt, will work together on the project.

The MoU was signed around 1:00 pm at the World Trade Center in Chattogram, with City Mayor Shahadat Hossain, company representatives, top officials, and members of the local business and civil society present.

Now that the MoU is signed, the two companies will carry out a feasibility study. This study will help decide the best way to build the monorail and how much it will cost.

What Is a Monorail?

A monorail is a modern form of public transport that runs on a single rail. It’s usually smaller and quieter than a metro train, and it’s easier to build in busy cities because it takes up less space.

Experts say building it is about 40% cheaper than a metro rail. It also needs less land and can be set up using existing city structures. If everything goes as planned, Chattogram’s monorail could be up and running in just two to two-and-a-half years.

This project brings new hope for Chattogram’s people, who face traffic jams every day. The monorail could make their daily commute faster and smoother, and also help the city grow in a more organized and modern way.
