Muradnagar Rape Case sees dramatic turn as the victim expresses desire to withdraw the case. Social media uproar and political links add complexity.
In a shocking turn of events, the Muradnagar Rape Case has taken a new direction as the victim has announced her intention to withdraw the complaint. This development comes amidst public outrage, viral videos, and political allegations surrounding the incident.
On the night of June 26, a disturbing incident unfolded in Bahechar Panchkitta village under Ramchandrapur South Union, Muradnagar Upazila of Cumilla district. The victim, a young woman visiting her father’s house, was allegedly raped by Fazor Ali (38), a man reportedly involved with her in a prior relationship.
She filed a rape case with Muradnagar Police Station accusing Fazor Ali. The situation escalated further when disturbing video footage of the incident was leaked and went viral, sparking nationwide outrage.
Two Cases, One Crime Scene
As of now, two separate cases are in progress:
-
Rape Case: Filed by the victim against Fazor Ali.
-
Pornography and Violence Case: Being processed under the Pornography Control Act and Women and Children Repression Prevention Act for filming and spreading the video.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Fazor Ali was brutally beaten by locals after the incident and later arrested by police in the Sayedabad area of Dhaka on Sunday morning.
In a deeply emotional statement, the victim expressed her willingness to withdraw the rape case, citing personal and social reasons. Her husband, currently abroad, reportedly urged her not to pursue legal action. According to her mother:
“My daughter’s husband told us—what’s done is done. He wants to take her back and live together. So, we are considering withdrawing the case.”
The victim echoed a similar sentiment:
“I filed the case, I’ll withdraw it. No one pressured me, no one offered me money. My husband said—your honor is gone, now what will you get from the case?”
She also denied a romantic relationship with Fazor Ali, claiming instead:
“We talked about money. I took some. It was a money-related issue, not a relationship.”
According to local sources and family members, on the night of June 26, a religious ceremony was taking place in a neighboring home. The woman was alone. Fazor Ali reportedly entered the house taking advantage of the situation. But what followed was even more disturbing.
A group of local youths, allegedly waiting outside, broke into the house, beat Fazor Ali, and recorded explicit videos of the aftermath. The two videos, 57 seconds and 1 minute 10 seconds in length, show the woman attempting to cover herself while the perpetrators prevent her from dressing and continued recording.
The release of the first video on social media platforms last Saturday evening ignited a storm of national condemnation. Activists, citizens, and organizations demanded justice not only for the rape but also for the humiliation caused by the illegal filming and circulation.
Following the viral spread, law enforcement agencies launched rapid operations. Five individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the two cases.

Political Allegations Surface
The Muradnagar Rape Case also took a political turn when groups began spreading conflicting narratives about the political affiliation of Fazor Ali.
-
Previously known as a close aide of Awami League chairman Golam Kibria Khokon, images of Fazor Ali attending AL processions have surfaced online.
-
After the August 5 regime change, Fazor allegedly began associating with local BNP leaders, reportedly to reposition himself politically.
Local BNP leaders, including Advocate Mohsin, acknowledged the long-standing affair between the victim and Fazor but distanced themselves from him politically. Residents like Abul Hossain claim Fazor switched loyalties opportunistically after the change in government.
Police and Legal Stand
Muradnagar Police Station OC Zahidur Rahman confirmed that:
-
The medical examination of the victim has been completed.
-
The video recorders have been identified and arrested.
-
Fazor Ali, despite injuries from the mob beating, is under medical care in police custody at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rashedul Haque Chowdhury stated:
“Even if the victim refuses to proceed, we will move forward legally. The second case regarding pornography is being prepared. If necessary, police will be the plaintiff.”
Cumilla Police Superintendent Md. Nazir Ahmed Khan added:
“Legal steps are being taken. Fazor will be sent to court after due medical procedure.”
The Muradnagar Rape Case is no longer a single story of violence- it’s a mirror reflecting societal shame, political opportunism, and the fragile safety net around Bangladeshi women. Regardless of the victim’s personal decision, the state has a constitutional obligation to investigate and prosecute such crimes to prevent recurrence and restore public trust.
